Every Election Starts With Promises and Ends With Excuses
If you have ever felt that elections change the names in office but not the system itself, this conversation is worth your attention.
Every election cycle brings another round of promises. We are told government will become more accountable, spending will be brought under control, individual freedoms will be protected, and the influence of powerful interests will finally be confronted. Yet many Americans continue to ask the same question: why do so many of the underlying problems remain regardless of which party holds power?
In this interview, I sit down with Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai to discuss his independent campaign for the U.S. Senate and his broader view of how political power operates in America. His campaign publicly frames many of these issues around decentralization, digital freedom, election transparency, economic freedom, and reducing the influence of entrenched political and corporate interests.
We examine the two-party system, lobbying, concentrated corporate influence, free speech, election transparency, healthcare middlemen, and the relationship between political and monetary power. Dr. Shiva also outlines several reforms he says would represent meaningful change, including stronger protections for digital free speech, preservation of ballot images, and reforms aimed at healthcare intermediaries.
But the conversation goes beyond any single candidate or election.
It raises a much larger question: if politicians and parties continually change, but government continues to grow more complex and institutional power becomes increasingly concentrated, are elections alone enough to produce meaningful reform?
Or does lasting change require something deeper, including greater transparency, decentralization, and a rebuilding of independent, bottom-up civic participation outside the traditional left-right framework?
That is the question at the center of this conversation.
