David Morgan, publisher of The Morgan Report and long-time precious-metals analyst, joins Mining Network to discuss the U.S. Treasury’s announcement today that it will at least double the size of its long-end liquidity-support buybacks (from $2 billion to ?$4 billion per operation for the 10–30 year sectors). With national debt having just reached the $40 trillion mark — after taking 200 years to hit $1 trillion and only another 50 years to multiply that figure forty-fold — Morgan examines the growing interest burden (already 13–15 % of outlays), the limits of yield-curve management, and why a debt-based fiat system must eventually be replaced. He outlines the most likely path: an initial attempt at an unbacked digital/MMT-style system that fails to regain confidence, followed by some form of gold-linked arrangement, noting that central-bank gold holdings have already surpassed their Treasury holdings in relative importance.
Morgan also analyses the structural shift in silver: industrial demand has risen from roughly 35 % of the market 25 years ago (on ~550 Moz of total supply) to around 60 % today on approximately 1 billion ounces of annual mine-plus-recycling supply, while primary mine output has largely plateaued. He flags risks in the AI sector — opaque private-credit financing of rapidly depreciating GPU hardware and data-centre capacity that may prove difficult to repurpose — drawing parallels with 2008, and sees substantial upside remaining in undervalued mining equities once physical metal is secured. Gold and silver, he argues, remain the most reliable stores of purchasing power in an environment of financial repression, potential hyperinflationary blow-offs, or uncontrolled bond-market stress.
